Gazing out over the shimmering expanse of the Pacific Ocean in Acapulco, Mexico, I found myself pondering a question that’s been echoing in the education sphere for years: how do we truly foster creativity and divergent thinking in our students? It’s a question that’s plagued educators, parents, and even business leaders, as we search for ways to equip the next generation with the skills needed to tackle complex, ever-evolving challenges.

Introduction: Unpacking the Power of AI Agents

This article explores the exciting realm of AI agents, a type of artificial intelligence that holds the potential to revolutionise not only problem-solving but also the very way we approach learning and innovation. AI agents, as defined by Gutowska (2024), are essentially autonomous systems that can "perform tasks on behalf of a user or another system by designing its workflow and utilizing available tools". Think of them as highly sophisticated digital assistants capable of navigating complex tasks, making decisions, and even learning from their experiences.

Learning Goal: This article aims to demystify AI agents, exploring their capabilities and limitations, and examining how they might be used to enhance learning experiences. We'll explore how AI agents operate, the different types that exist, and the potential benefits and risks associated with their use.
